BlitzTables

Learning and practising

In Learn, your child goes through a times table calmly, with no clock. In Practice, they do sums on the number pad, and the app remembers how it went.

Learn: going through a table calmly

In Learn, your child picks one times table. The whole table then appears on screen, sum by sum. One tap shows the answer, the next tap brings the next sum.

There’s no clock and no number pad, and nothing can go wrong. This is for getting to know a table, not for proving it. With Start over, your child goes back to the first sum.

In Learn, the whole table is on the screen.

Practice: doing sums

  1. Tap Practice.
  2. Under Choose your tables, pick which tables your child wants to do. You can pick more than one.
  3. Under How many sums?, choose a number, or All.
  4. Tap Start.

The sums come one at a time. Your child types the answer on the number pad and confirms with the tick.

  • If it’s right, they move on to the next sum.
  • If it’s wrong, the app shows the right answer. That sum comes back again later in the round.

Nothing is ever taken away. A wrong answer only means that sum could use a bit more practice.

At the end

After the last sum, you’ll see how many sums your child got right the first time. Below that are the Sums that took more tries. With Again, they do the same round once more.

What the app does with it

Every sum your child does is remembered: whether it was right, and how long it took. From that, the app learns which sums aren’t going well yet. You can see this on Progress, and it’s what Tricky sums works with.
