Downloading the app
BlitzTables is on the App Store for iPhone and iPad, and on Google Play for Android phones and tablets. Search for "BlitzTables", or use the buttons at the bottom of this website.
There’s no playing in the browser. BlitzTables is an app for phones and tablets.
The first time
The first time the app opens, you’ll see Welcome to BlitzTables. You then create one profile:
- Type your child’s name under Name. A nickname is fine too: the app doesn’t check.
- Pick a picture under Choose an avatar.
- Under Where do you go to school?, choose the country where your child goes to school.
- Tap Done.
That’s all the app asks. No year of birth, no email address, no account.
Why the school matters
Your choice under Where do you go to school? decides which school system the app follows. Right below your choice, under What this region means, you can see what that involves:
- which times table they learn up to;
- how many sums that comes to;
- whether 3 × 4 and 4 × 3 count as one sum or as two;
- how many timed tests there are, and how many diplomas there are to earn.
You can choose from Nederland, België / Belgique, United Kingdom, Deutschland, France, España, Italia, Suomi and Polska. With Nederland and United Kingdom the tables go up to 12; in the other countries they go up to 10.
The home screen
At the top is a greeting with your child’s name. Below that, under Quick start, are the tiles:
| Tile | What it is |
|---|---|
| Learn | Go through a times table calmly, with no clock |
| Practice | Do sums from the tables your child picks |
| Test | A timed test against the clock |
| Diploma | Have a go at earning a diploma |
| Duel | Two players on one device |
| Tricky sums | The app picks the sums that aren’t going well yet |
Below the tiles are the Recent sessions: what your child did the last few times. At the bottom of the screen is a bar with Home, Learn, Practice and Progress.
How each part works is explained in Learning and practising and the guides after it.
A fourteen-day free trial
New users first get fourteen days of everything in Pro, free. With one exception: during the trial, too, your child can earn one diploma, just as on the free plan. You don’t need to give a credit card. The home screen shows how many days are left. Afterwards you land on the free plan, not on nothing. What’s in each plan is set out in Free and Pro.
Without internet
Learning, practice, the timed test, the diplomas and the duel all work without a connection. You only need internet to buy or restore a subscription.
